Most cards have abilities that are explained via the rules text listed on the bottom half of the card. There are three types of card abilities in Internal Conflict; activated abilities, triggered abilities and passive abilities.
Activated abilities are abilities that players can activate by paying the cost of the ability. The cost of activation is denoted by a colon (:) in the rules text and will be in the form of (cost of activation) : (effect of ability). For example, an activated ability may require the player to spend a certain number of Affinity Points or exhaust the unit. Activated abilities with the symbol will cause the unit to be exhausted.
Triggered abilities are abilities that take effect automatically in response to a certain event on the Battleground.
The One Punch Hexal Virus card has a triggered ability that takes effect whenever it deals damage to a SUPACell unit. Whenever the One Punch Hexal deals damage to a SUPACell unit, this ability will trigger, causing the SUPACell unit to be destroyed.
The Cunning Calculator SUPACell card has a triggered ability that takes effect whenever another SUPACell unit comes into play. Whenever another SUPACell unit comes into play, this ability will trigger, causing the controller of the unit to draw a card.
Passive abilities are abilities that do not require activation or a trigger. The ability will remain active as long as the unit remains on the Battleground.
When multiple effects are triggered by an event on the Battleground, the active player has the right to choose the order in which their effects will be resolved. However, they must do so within a limited timeframe. If the player fails to complete the resolution in time, the effects will be assigned randomly by the system to be resolved. Afterwards, the opponent can choose the order of their own effects, if any, in the same way.
The Clerical Star Virus card has an activated ability that allows players to heal another Virus unit for 30. Activating this ability does not require any Affinity Points but will cause the unit to be exhausted.
The Virtuous Sinking Healer SUPACell card also has an activated ability that allows players to heal another SUPACell unit for 30. However, activating this ability will not cause the unit to be exhausted but will cost 4 Affinity Points for each activation. Hence, a player may activate this ability several times in the same turn as long as that player has sufficient Affinity Points to pay for each activation.
The Void Nullifier SUPACell card has a passive ability that causes all -type Viruses to deal 0 Damage regardless of their Virulence Factor stat. This effect is ongoing and will remain active as long as the Void Nullifier is on the Battleground.
The Titan of Salvation Virus card has a passive ability that causes all Viruses to have an additional 30 in addition to their current stat. This effect is ongoing and will remain active as long as the Titan of Salvation is on the Battleground.
